Finding the perfect hybrid
- 01. HEV vs PHEV
Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) are self-charging and perfect for convenience, while Plug-in Hybrids (PHEVs) offer an extended electric-only range. HEVs are generally more affordable, whereas PHEVs maximize fuel savings on short commutes. You can experience these benefits with the Toyota Corolla Hybrid or the versatile Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.
- 02. Type of hybrid
The technical layout - series or parallel - directly changes your cabin experience. Series hybrids feel like a quiet electric car because the engine only acts as a generator, while parallel hybrids provide a mechanical, traditional feel by using both power sources to drive wheels. For a refined and whisper-quiet city drive, the Nissan X-Trail with e-Power technology delivers a seamless, EV-like sensation without needing a plug.
- 03. Performance
Hybrids have shattered the myth that they lack muscle by combining instant electric torque with petrol power. They can also deliver exceptional off-road capability and impressive towing performance. The GWM Tank 300 Ultra HEV is a prime example, delivering massive torque and 3,000kg braked towing capacity for the toughest routes.
- 04. Features over brand
Innovation in the hybrid space is moving fast, and many modern Chinese brands such as Jaecoo and GWM are now competing with traditional manufacturers by offering premium, high-tech features as standard, such as massaging leather seats or massive dual-screen cockpits. See this value in action with the tech-heavy GWM Haval H6 Ultra, which packs a full suite of standard safety and comfort features.
